These Terms of Service govern your use of financeinyourpocket.com (“the site”). By accessing or using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
They are written to be read. Where a section imposes a real limit on what you can expect from this site — and section 4 in particular does — it says so plainly rather than in language designed to be skipped.
1. Who operates this site
The site is owned and operated by an individual, not a company:

That address is the permanent, direct, and free-of-charge channel for questions about the site or these terms. It is monitored by one person, so replies are not instant, but reports of an incorrect published figure are prioritized over everything else. 2. What the site is
Finance In Your Pocket publishes a catalog of financial calculators for a United States audience — mortgage and home affordability, paycheck withholding, federal income tax, retirement and FIRE projections, debt payoff, and others — together with explanatory articles, a glossary, and reference tables of regulatory data.
Everything is free to use. There is no account to create, no paywall, and no email capture. Every calculation runs in your own browser: the values you type are never transmitted to a server, never logged, and never stored anywhere outside your device.
3. What the site is not
This site does not provide financial, tax, legal, or investment advice. That is not a formality. Advice means telling a specific person what to do given their full circumstances, and nothing here knows your circumstances. Every calculator applies public rules to figures you supply and returns arithmetic.
No relationship of adviser, accountant, attorney, broker, or fiduciary is created by using the site. Víctor Gil Vázquez is not a CPA, an enrolled agent, or a licensed financial adviser, and the site does not claim otherwise anywhere.
For anything that turns on your specific facts — an entity election, a multi-state tax question, an inherited retirement account, a decision where being wrong is expensive — consult a qualified professional. Several articles here say so explicitly at the point where the question passes what a calculator can honestly answer.
4. Accuracy, estimates, and the limits of the tools
Results are estimates. Every calculator on this site simplifies reality deliberately, because one that modeled every rule, exception, and local variation would be unusable and would still be incomplete.
Each calculator states what it does not model in a section on its own page, and the methodology page collects all of those limits in one place. Reading the limits for a calculator you are relying on is worth the two minutes.
Regulatory figures — federal tax brackets, contribution limits, wage bases, state rates — are stored with the date each was last checked against its source and are published in the reference section. They change, sometimes mid-year, and a figure here may not yet reflect the most recent change. Market reference points such as mortgage rates and median home prices are point-in-time starting values, never live quotes.
Historical returns used in projections describe the past and do not guarantee future results. A projection assuming a smooth annual return is a modeling convenience; real markets do not deliver one, and the order in which returns arrive materially changes outcomes once you begin withdrawing.
You are responsible for verifying any figure that matters to a decision against an official source or a qualified professional before acting on it. Every calculator links the primary sources behind its data for exactly that purpose.
5. No warranty and limitation of liability
The site is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. No warranty is given that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any defect will be corrected.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the owner will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site — including decisions taken in reliance on a calculator result, an article, or a published figure.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where the law does not permit it, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Where you are a consumer, mandatory consumer protection rights under the law of your place of residence are unaffected by these terms.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use automated means to scrape, crawl, or copy the site at a rate that degrades service for other users, or to circumvent any technical measure limiting access.
- Republish substantial portions of the site's text, data tables, or calculation engines as your own work. Brief quotation with attribution and a link is fine and welcome.
- Interfere with the site's operation, attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of it, or introduce malicious code.
- Interact artificially with advertising on the site, including clicking your own or others' ads to generate revenue, or encouraging others to do so. This is prohibited by the advertising network's policies and by these terms.
- Present output from the site as professional advice, or as your own analysis, to a third party who is relying on it.
7. Your data and the calculations you run
The values you enter into a calculator are processed entirely in your browser. They are not sent to any server operated by this site, not logged, and not accessible to the owner. Some calculators save your last inputs in your browser's local storage so the form is pre-filled when you return; that data stays on your device and you can clear it from your browser settings at any time.
Some calculators can encode your inputs into a shareable URL when you use a “copy link” feature. If you share such a link, the figures in it travel with it — that is the point of the feature, but it is worth knowing before you paste one into a group chat.

8. Advertising
The site is free and supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Advertising scripts load only after you accept them in the consent banner; if you decline, no advertising script runs.
Advertising has no influence on content. Advertisers have no input into what is written, nothing is recommended in exchange for payment, and there are no affiliate arrangements steering any comparison toward a particular lender, provider, or product. A calculator returns identical results for every visitor regardless of their advertising and cookie choices. This commitment is stated in full in the editorial standards.
The specific advertisements shown are selected by Google and its advertising partners, not by the owner. Their content, claims, and the practices of the businesses that place them are outside the owner's control, and any dealing you have with an advertiser is between you and them.
9. Intellectual property
The site's original text, design, and calculation engines are the property of the owner and are protected by copyright. Reproducing, distributing, or publishing substantial portions without express authorization is not permitted.
Two things are explicitly permitted. You may quote briefly with attribution and a link. And you may use, cite, or republish the figures in the reference tables — those are facts drawn from public government sources, and facts are not owned by anyone; a link back is appreciated but not required.
If you believe material on this site infringes your copyright, email the address in section 1 identifying the material, where it appears, and the work you say it infringes. Claims are reviewed promptly and infringing material is removed.
10. External links and third-party content
The site links extensively to primary sources — the IRS, the Social Security Administration, the CFPB, the Federal Reserve, the Census Bureau, and others — because citing them is how the data is made checkable. It also displays advertising containing third-party links.
The owner does not control and is not responsible for the content, availability, accuracy, or privacy practices of any external site. A link is not an endorsement. Following one is done at your own risk, and the linked site's own terms and privacy policy apply once you arrive.
11. Availability and changes to the site
The site is provided on a best-effort basis by one person. It may be unavailable at times for maintenance or for reasons outside the owner's control, and calculators may be changed, corrected, or withdrawn without notice — most often because a regulatory figure changed or an error was found and fixed.
A calculator result you saw previously may therefore differ from one you see today. That is usually a correction rather than a fault, and substantive corrections to published figures are reflected in the project's changelog.
12. Age and eligibility
The site is intended for adults and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect information from children, and no part of it requires an account or the submission of personal information.
13. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated. The “last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the current version, and material changes will be reflected there. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
14. Severability
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, that provision is limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions stay in full effect.
15. Governing law
The site is operated by an individual and published for a general audience, principally in the United States. These terms and any dispute arising from them or from your use of the site are governed by applicable law, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protection rules of the country or state in which you reside, which continue to apply to you regardless of anything in these terms.
